3. Town Fest with Trotti-Bike Scooter Races & Swiss National Day Brunch; 1 August 2009

Each year on the 1st of August the Swiss celebrate the legendary meeting of William Tell and his men, when they made their famous pact on the Rütli meadow. Engelberg celebrates this historical event with a town festival. At 7 a.m. a quartet of alphorns echoes from the Spannort mountain top. Throughout the day more concerts take place in various other parts of town. At 9:00 a.m. there’s a community brunch at the Schweizerhaus Restaurant. In the afternoon you can take a stroll through the market with its many interesting booths and stands. At 2 p.m. it’s time for fun at the Trotti-Bike Scooter Races. The official national ceremony for this special day—including a parade and speeches— takes place in the park at around 6:15 p.m.
