Peak Climber’s Breakfast at the top of Mount Titlis; 1 August 2009 As they say ‚The early bird catches the worm’, and with that in mind we’ll begin celebrating Swiss National Day at 4 a.m. at the top of Mount Titlis. 3. Town Fest with Trotti-Bike Scooter Races & Swiss National Day Brunch; 1 August 2009 Each year on the 1st of August the Swiss celebrate the legendary meeting of William Tell and his men, when they made their famous pact on the Rütli meadow. Engelberg celebrates this historical event with a town festival. At 7 a.m. a quartet of alphorns echoes from the Spannort mountain top. Throughout the day more concerts take place in various other parts of town. At 9:00 a.m. there’s a community brunch at the Schweizerhaus Restaurant. In the afternoon you can take a stroll through the market with its many interesting booths and stands. At 2 p.m. it’s time for fun at the Trotti-Bike Scooter Races. 4. 1st of August Open Air Concert– DJ BoBo 3 years ago, 10,000 fans came to Engelberg to celebrate Swiss National Day. It’s time to do it again—you’re invited to the ‘biggest party in Switzerland’ as we celebrate the first of August 2009!! This time DJ Bobo will perform with several musical friends from the 80’s and 90’s. There will be five hours of hits, performed outdoors on a huge stage in the shape of the white Swiss cross. Concert-goers are requested to wear a red shirt or top—it’s all part of the gigantic aerial stage design. For more information |

6. Rugghubel Mountain Run, 16 August 2009 At 9:30 a.m. the starting gun will sound for the annual Rugghubel Mountain Run. 7. Sumpter Week – The animal train arrives in Engelberg; 16 August 2009 For centuries ‘sumpters’ –drivers of pack animals such as mules and horses— transported salt and wine over the trade route spanning from Bavaria via the Alps to Italy. This year their route takes them through Stansstad – Engelberg – Jochpass – Griespass as they head for Ponte, Italy. The train of pack animals will arrive on Sunday, 16 August around 6:30 p.m. and will take a break in the town park (Kurpark). Swiss TV will also be on hand to cover the event. 8. Titlis Mountain Trophy; 22 August 2009 A hike for hiking fans of all sorts—for families, for pros. Go from Engelberg to Gross Titlis. Have you ever made it to the top of a 3,238 m mountain—on foot? Plan to do it on Saturday, 22 August 2009. For SFr 62.00 you’ll get a refreshment at each station along the way, a delicious meal of Älplermagronen (Alpine mac & cheese) on the Titlis terrace, and a cable car ride when it’s time to return to the valley.
