3. 37th International Mountain Guide Ski Championship,
8 & 9 May 2009

On the second weekend of May, mountain guides from all over the world will come to Engelberg—not only for a yearly reunion with their professional buddies, but to take part in some Alpine competition as well. The opening ceremony of the international championship races will take place in the Kurpark (Town Park) on Friday, 8 May 2009, following a day filled with several athletic activities. On Saturday, 9 May 2009, the mountain guides will line up on Jochpass for the start of the ski races at 10:00 a.m. After the awards ceremony at 5:00 p.m., there will be an evening of  celebration at the Sporting Park (beginning at 7:00 p.m.).

4. Titlis Snow & Golf, 16 & 17 May 2009

Engelberg-Titlis is a sports paradise in springtime, too! While skiers are still taking advantage of the awesome snow conditions on the slopes of Mount Titlis, golfers are down in the valley enjoying springlike conditions on the links. What could be better than to have the two sports converge?! On Saturday, 16 May 2009, there will be an 18-hole golf tournament, followed in the evening by a dinner at Ski Lodge Stand. On the next day (Sunday, 17 May 2009) the Giant Slalom downhill race will take place.

5. Angels in Engelberg - Auction, 30 May 2009

Since the beginning of May 2008,  45 unique angels have graced this monastery town, adding more ‚heavenliness’ to a place that’s already heavenly! The ‚angelic’ pieces of artwork, can be found outside various hotels, restaurants and shops around Engelberg.

Would you like to take home one of the angels to decorate your garden? At Whitsun, 30 May 2009, you can place your bid on one of 10 angels at the auction. The money from the auction will go towards the renovation of the Benedictine Monastery in Engelberg.

6. Racer Bikes Cup, 27 & 28 June 2009

The Racer Bikes Cup Race, part of the national Mountain Bike Racing Tour of Switzerland, will be taking place in Engelberg for the first time. Starting near the Titlis Ski Jump, the route will then take a turn upwards into Gerschni Forest. A spectacular descent will lead the competitors back to the finish line located at the Titlis Rotair base station. The race promises to be an exciting event for both riders and spectators. World champion Christoph Sauser will be among the expected 600-800 onlookers.


7. DJ Bobo Open Air, 1 August 2009

Three years ago on 1 August 2006, 10,000 enthusiastic DJ Bobo fans turned out for „ the biggest August 1st celebration in Switzerland.“ And now it’s party time again!

This time DJ Bobo and his musical friends from the 80s and 90s (Culture Beat, Captain Hollywood,...) will sing hits from over the last 25 years—five hours of open air entertainment brought to you upon a stage shaped like a giant white Swiss cross.

8. Jazz in the Dorfstrasse

As in past years, there will also be a series of 14 ‚cocktail concerts’ in various Engelberg locales during the months of July and August. Listen to traditional and modern jazz entertainment every Tuesday and Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.  Performances are free.

10. Watercolor Workshop, 15-19 June 2009

Guschti Meyer, artist and art teacher, will conduct a workshop for beginners and advanced students in mid-June. The main goals of this course are to cultivate the joy of and appreciation for watercolor painting while concentrating on and capturing the beauty of Nature, her colors and forms. Painting will take place either outdoors, amidst the backdrop of colorful mountains, or indoors in the classroom.
