Starting point for all routes in the valley is Engelberg railway station, unless otherwise stated. Please keep to the signposted winter paths as these are checked for safety, and do not use the cross-country trails for a winter walk. Our suggestions are:

2 Eugenisee
3 Gerschnialp-Untertrübsee
4 Trübsee
5 Horbis-Ende der Welt

14 Panorama-hike Fürenalp

1 Bänklialp-Eienwäldli-Fürenalpbahn (Professorenweg)
From the Sporting Park walk along the valley towards Eienwäldli. Here follow the main street to the waterfall and then to the valley station of the Fürenalp cableway.

1000 m – 1084 m /1 h 10 min

2 Eugenisee (Professorenweg)
From the Sporting Park walk away from the valley, past the valley station of the Titlis cableway and left of the Engelberg Aa to Oertigen.

1000 m – 992 m / 25 min

3 Gerschnialp-Untertrübsee (via Bänklialpweg)
A popular winter walk on the Gerschnialp plateau. From Hotel Bänklialp walk uphill to Gerschnialp via Bänklialpweg and through the woods, then take the road to the Gerschnialp station, go along the winter footpath through the woods and cross the valley floor at the foot of the Bitzistock to Untertrübsee.

1000 m – 1240 m /1 h 45 min

4 Trübsee (Obertrübsee-Hüethütte-Trübsee Station)
From the Obertrübsee top station (from Untertrübsee via Aelplerseil) the path climbs steadily up to the Hüet hut at the end of the frozen Lake Trüb, and then follows the left bank to the Trübsee chapel and station. It is also possible to do the walk in the reverse direction.

1707 m – 1796 m /40 min

5 Horbis-Ende der Welt
This beautiful winter walk leads to the "end of the world". At the monastery chapel turn left and go up the steps to Buechli. Here the path takes you over the upper monastery meadow to Kilchbühl, where it continues at the same altitude straight ahead to the Grottenweg. Shortly after the start of the forest you will find the Lourdes Grotto above you on the left. The walk goes on to the Horbis road over the bridge, where you turn off left and walk alongside the Bären stream to Horbis.

1000 m – 1130 m /55 min

6 St. Anna-Horbis (via Kloster-Grotzenwäldli)
At the monastery church walk up to the cemetery and over the monastery meadow to St. Anna. Here turn left after the bridge and walk along Horbis road, at the Horbis lake the path turns right and climbs steadily up to Horbis.

1000 m – 1130 m / 55 min

7 Wasserfall-Fürenalpbahn (via Schweizerhaus)
At the monastery church walk up to the cemetery and over the monastery meadow to St. Anna. Cross the bridge here and walk along the Schweizerhausstrasse, over a wide meadow to the waterfall and on to the valley station of the Fürenalp cableway.

1000 m – 1084 m /1 h 15 min

8 Bergli-Ristis
At Schwandstrasse the path starts to rise steadily straightaway: approx. 60m after Hotel Waldegg take the road to the right towards Bergli-Spisboden. After a few bends and some increase in altitude you finally arrive on the Ristis, where you are rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view.

1000 m – 1606 m / 3 h

9 Schwand-Ristis (Grüss)
At Schwandstrasse the path starts to rise steadily straightaway, but then it gets easier through the forest from Hotel Waldegg to Schwand, and at the chapel and Schwand restaurant becomes rather more demanding again. After several bends and an increase in altitude you finally arrive on the Ristis, where you are rewarded with a fabulous panoramic view.

1000 m – 1606 m / 3 h 15 min

10 Gerschnialp-Schlegi-Untertrübsee
From Hotel Bänklialp walk uphill to Gerschnialp via Bänklialpweg and through the woods, and then walk on the road to the Ritz mountain restaurant. Here the path takes you over the skirun, on via Schlegi, and along the valley floor to Untertrübsee.

1000 m – 1240 m / 1 h 35 min

11 Trübsee (Obertrübsee-Alpstubli-Trübsee Station)
You walk on this beautiful ridge path from the Obertrübsee top station (from Untertrübsee via Aelplerseil) to the Hüet hut, with the Titlis glacier always in sight. At Lake Trüb the path turns right towards Restaurant Alpstubli and then follows the banks of the frozen Trübsee, and after a short ascent reaches Trübsee station.

1707 m – 1796 m / 50 min

12 Flühmatt (Kloster-Buechli-Flühmatt)
At the monastery chapel turn left and go up the steps to Buechli. After about 20m the path goes uphill to the left towards the end of the ski-lift (mind the skiers!). After passing the lift go to the left, up through the Müli woods, where a good path makes the climb to the Flühmatt easier.

1000 m – 1300 m /1h

13 Brunnihütte SAC-Rigidalstafel-Ristis
At the Swiss Alpine Club's Brunni hut (cable car to Ristis and chairlift to the Brunni hut) cross the ski-run going left, slightly downhill. The wide path to Rigidalstafel descends slightly and, over a wide terrain, leads to the Ristis, the top station of the Engelberg-Brunni cableway.

1860 m – 1606 m / 1h 35 min

14 Panorama-hike Fürenalp
A great but short winter hike at 1800 meters above sea level with an impressive view of the snowy mountains and glaciers.

1850 m / 20 min
