Rapidly expanding as one of central Switzerland’s most sought-after resorts, Engelberg is not just a hit during the winter; it’s brilliant during the summer too.

With many activities available at both village level and on the mountain you’ll never run out of things to do in Engelberg even if you time your visit when the skiing areas are closed. As the lift system operates throughout the year, there is a host of hiking and mountain biking options to choose from no matter how dedicated you are.

There are geology trails for families and more testing hiking routes for more experienced walkers; while there are around 14 cycling trails to choose from and you could even rent an electric bike to check out the scenery without the stress. The Lake Lucerne region is great in the summer too with mountain views, countryside excursions and lakeside fun to enjoy.

Anyone who loves to climb will be positively spoilt for choice in Engelberg because there are a host of climbing sites and trails to push your limits. It’s also a great location for Via Ferrata with some areas helping children to get started and others offering spectacular climbs with real variety and action.

It will take a really wild visitor to test themselves with a spot of bungee jumping or to take a ride on the notorious devil bikes. However, the summer Toboggan run is ideal for all the family, as you enjoy summer bobsledding at Ristis.

For something more relaxing why not watch your children’s eyes light up with a spot of pony riding; head to the 18 hole golf course for a round; or see if you can catch your own supper with fishing at Lake Eugensee?
