Information

Course objective

  • Familiarisation with equipment and belaying
  • Acquiring the technique for climbing via ferrata
  • Perceive and assess dangers
  • Gain knowledge of the difficulty ratings and learn to assess your own ability correctly
  • After the course you will be able to climb via ferratas independently.

Requirement

No special previous knowledge required. You should bring hiking boots with a firm sole, surefootedness, a head for heights and good physical condition (walking times of 3 hours are no problem for you).

Theory session with a mountain guide (material, technics, weather, preparations etc.)

Tuesday

Cable car ride to Brunni - Practical session at via ferrata Rigidalstock

5.15 p.m.

Theory session with mental coach "Mentaly ready for the big wall."

Wednesday

 

09.00 a.m.

Meeting point at cable car station Fürenalp. Final via ferrata "Fürenwand".

02.00 p.m.

End of  training course

In Engelberg there is a free shuttle bus for all our guests. With the bus, you will get easy to all meeting points. Due to weather, changes in the program may occur; information will follow from your mountain guide.

Packing list

  • Weatherproof clothing
  • Wind or rain jacket (remember, we are in the mountains, it might be colder than in the village)
  • Athletic apparel (hiking pants, functional T-shirt, fleece jacket)
  • Hiking or trekking shoes (high cut)
  • Gloves (cycling or climbing gloves)
  • Personal belongings for 3 days
  • Lunch/pick nick for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (in Engelberg are various grocery stores)
  • Half-fare travel card or the GA travel card
     

To get on site

  • The hiking-pass for 3 days can be purchased for CHF 82.-. If you possess a half-fare travel card or the GA travel card it will be cheaper to purchase the lift passes individually. All tickets can be purchased at the Tourist Center.
  • Via ferrata set - can be rented for a special price of CHF 20 per day on site, from the Engelberg Mountain Guides.
