ENGELBERG SKI & WINTER RESORT SWITZERLAND

Engelberg isn’t just a winter ski resort, it’s a winter haven. It has so much on offer that you might be tempted to extend your stay just to pack it all in.

Understandably, skiing is the number one pastime in Engelberg with much of the terrain designed for advanced skiers with beginners needing to be wary of the more challenging pistes. The season typically lasts from October until May and the area has also become an off-piste skiing Mecca with many winter visitors travelling to enjoy the challenging descents that can be reached from the lift ski areas of Jochpass and Titlis. Snowboarding is well provided for and there are plenty of parks to test your skills.

That’s not to say there’s nothing for beginners to enjoy, however – for example, the area of Brunni is suitable for early intermediates, although its snow season is not typically as long. The Lake Lucerne region offers a relaxing diversion from the typical winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding and sledding with a wide selections of shops, cafés and restaurants to enjoy. Lucerne is easily reached from Engelberg by the hourly Swiss Rail service.

Cross country skiing can be enjoyed with a variety of different routes with interesting courses in the Engelberg valley.  Alternatively, you can take in the scenery with some winter hiking that includes routes through the woods with impressive views of the mountains and glaciers.

For something of a walk on the wild side, check out the sledding options available with several runs to choose from where you can slide through the snow. You can also listen to the snow crunch under your feet by taking one of the snow shoeing routes; or you could enjoy the ultimate thrill ride at the SnowXPark, riding electric motorbikes converted for use on snow.
