SPECIAL CHILDREN ON THE WAY

To escape the heat, we went to the Trüebsee a few weeks ago with a wonderful view of the Titlis glacier. At just under 1800m, we enjoyed the sun and then looked for a path down to the valley that was suitable for prams.

Arrival
The TITLIS Xpress takes us comfortably from Engelberg to the Trüebsee station. The gondolas are all barrier-free and offer good space for the pram.

Trüebsee
In a few minutes, the path leads from the station down to Lake Trüeb. A flat, well-maintained path leads all around the lake. The walk takes about an hour. An all-terrain vehicle is recommended, as the path is often quite bumpy. Hammocks with a great view of the mountains invite you to rest and the new playground "Smuggler & Säumer" looks very promising. The opening is scheduled for September and we had to promise our daughter to come back!

Back to the valley - on foot and by gondola
Officially, we did not find a path suitable for prams in the hiking maps. So we chose the bike path in the direction of Unter Trüebsee / Älplerseil gondola (start between the Alpstübli restaurant and the chairlift). The path is wide, level and gravelled, so it is easily passable with an all-terrain vehicle. There are quite a few metres of descent, so sturdy shoes are highly recommended!

After a while the path divides. To the left, the trail continues down into the valley (relatively steep with many metres of altitude), to the right, after a short while, the trail leads to the mountain station of the Älplerseil gondola lift. The gondola runs on demand, a short phone call to the valley station is enough. There are a few steps to climb to the gondola entrance; folded up, the car easily found room in the gondola. We enjoyed the ride with a spectacular view!

From the valley station, various paths lead to the top station of the Gerschnialp funicular. We opted for the rather narrow hiking trail through meadows and forest. At several turnstiles we had to lift the car over. Later, the path widens and leads well to the Gerschnialp station.

Tip: If you want to take the last section more comfortably, you can opt for the small road that is passable by car.

The last stage to Engelberg - with the funicular railway
The funicular runs every 30 minutes and ends at the valley station of all Titlis lifts. The entrance is not barrier-free, the carriage has to be carried up the stairs at both the top and bottom stations. However, there is plenty of room in the compartment and the staff are very helpful!
