The imposing south wall of the Grossen Sättlistock consists of hard, horizontally layered mountain limestone. At present there are three long sport climbing trails—rated at 6 and 7 on the scale of difficulty. The south column was scaled in 1960; just left of that are the two other more modern and secure routes, which were established in the 1990’s.

In combination with the east-ridge trail of the Laucherenstock, the east ridge of the Sättelistock makes for a popular classic climbing experience.
