Walenstöcke

24.5 km, difficult

On this beautiful high mountain tour, you will hike around the 7 Stöcke and most of the time through untouched, protected mountain landscape. The circular hiking trail starts and ends in Ristis.

Surenenpass

24 km, difficult

The Surenenpass hike is part of the Via Alpina. It leads you from Engelberg through the wild and romantic Surenen with rushing waterfalls over the Surenen Pass to Attinghausen. The return journey is by train.

Ridge Hike Stans-Engelberg

26 km, difficult

The ridge hike starts on the Stanserhorn and is a challenging but uniquely beautiful day hike that requires a bit of surefootedness. With an overnight stay in a tent on the Lauchernalp, it is also perfect for a wonderful excursion.

Walenpfad

11 km, moderate

With the Walenpfad you choose one of the most beautiful high-altitude hikes in Switzerland as a day tour. On mostly narrow but nevertheless very well maintained paths, the trail leads you from Brunni to Bannalp. The route can be walked in both directions and with public transport support it becomes a round trip.

Aaschlucht-Lutersee-Engelberg

From Engelberg, you first walk through meadows and forests up to the idyllic Lutersee. From there, there is an entertaining descent to the Buiräbähnli Lutersee-Rugisbalm-Mettlen, which will take you comfortably down into the valley. Through the wild and romantic Aasch gorge you hike back to Engelberg.

Alpine Cheese Trail

On a route of 47 km, the Alpine Cheese Trail circles the monastery village and passes 7 alpine cheese dairies, some of which offer rustic overnight accommodations. If you want, you can get up early the next morning and help the alpine farmers with their daily routine in the barn and with the animals.

Ready for the airy cable car hike in the Engelberg Valley? Then the Buiräbähnli Safari around Engelberg (cable cars for mountain farmers) is just right for you!

Gratwanderung

From the Stanserhorn, the first day will take you to Alp Laucheren, where you will spend the night in a bivouac. The next day the ridge trail leads you over the Lutersee to Engelberg from where you could complete the 4-lake hike as a 3rd stage.

Via Alpina

The Via Alpina, a long-distance hiking trail through the Alps that connects countries and runs from Trieste to Monaco, has been in existence since 2002. Engelberg is also a stage stop.

Nidwaldner Höhenweg

The Nidwaldner Höhenweg offers varied hiking on mountain trails with magnificent views. Two monastery villages invite you to visit. The many mountain railway connections make it possible to split up the five-day hike.

Tell-Trail

The ‘Tell Trail’ long-distance hiking trail leads through the picturesque Lucerne-Lake Lucerne Region - from Altdorf to the Brienzer Rothorn. In eight stages, the trail leads past glistening mountain lakes, through historic villages and world-famous towns as well as to the ‘Big 6’ mountains of Central Switzerland: Stoos, Rigi, Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Titlis and Brienzer Rothorn.
