"TOPLESS"

Towards the Titlis! Please note the weather and season for the hike.

The ridge hike begins on the Stanserhorn and is a challenging yet uniquely beautiful alpine hike. Shortly after setting out, the voices and sounds fade away, and you arrive up there, free from the noise, hustle, and bustle of everyday life, and begin to breathe deeply. You find your own rhythm, and then the journey itself becomes the destination—always heading toward the TITLIS.

YOUR OPEN-AIR ADVENTURE FROM LUZERN TO THE ALPS

This challenging mountain trail (T3)* offers 26 km of hiking fun and a total walking time of about 10 hours; it requires sure-footedness and sturdy hiking boots.

* Hiking difficulty level T3: This hike requires sure-footedness, sturdy hiking boots, good physical condition, and mountain experience.

How to get there with the Zentralbahn & Stanserhorn Railway

Your adventure begins as soon as you arrive in Stans via the Zentralbahn. From there, you’ll first take the historic Stanserhorn Railway funicular, and then the world’s first CarbiO aerial tramway with an open upper deck will take you to the summit—an experience in itself.
Tip: Plan to spend a little extra time on the Stanserhorn and enjoy the 360° view of 10 Swiss lakes and 100 km of the Alpine range, including the Titlis.

Stage 1: Stanserhorn – Alp Laucheren

The actual hike begins on the Stanserhorn. After a short while, the voices fade away and you hike in peace toward the Titlis. The first stage leads to Alp Laucheren, where you can rest or spend the night in a tent.

Stage 2: Alp Laucheren – Engelberg

The second section follows the nature trail with spectacular views. At the key section “Wagenleis,” sure-footedness is essential. Here, the trail leads along the exposed ridge.

Option to extend: 4-Lakes Hike

For those with energy the next day: The 4-Lakes Hike is the perfect addition, turning this into a circular tour through the Engelberg mountain world.

Alp Laucheren

Your mountain hut at 1,900 meters above sea level
High above the Engelberg Valley, the Laucheren Alp lies well sheltered in a gentle hollow. From June through the end of September, the herdsman Melk tends his flock here: 120 sheep, 2 llamas, about 50 mother cows with their calves, a bull, 8 hens, 1 rooster, and a herding dog.

Hospitality with heart

Alp Laucheren isn't a restaurant, nor does it offer official lodging like a proper mountain hut. However, you can almost always get a nice cup of coffee there, and passing hikers are always welcome to stop for a rest and a quick chat.

Warm-Hearted Hospitality

Alp Laucheren isn’t your typical mountain hut, and that’s exactly what makes it special. Hikers are welcome to stop by for a coffee or a snack at any time of day.

Mrs. Niederberger is the fourth generation to run the alp. Her philosophy: genuine hospitality instead of a commercial restaurant atmosphere.

Bivouac on the Alp

You can now spend the night halfway along the ridge hike. Includes a delicious dinner and an Alpine breakfast. As a bonus, you’ll get an unforgettable sunset and sunrise.

Reservation required: Call Agnes and Melk Niederberger at 079 274 67 19.

With this stopover, your ridge hike becomes a little modern adventure, a brief escape from everyday life, and a guaranteed highlight of your summer in the mountains.
