Aas Gorge Adventure Path Engelberg

Please use the signposted detour!
An adventure path through the wild romantic Aas Gorge, past boulders and over numerous bridges, which is also ideal for hiking on hot days due to its shady location. The numerous fire pits and picnic spots along the way invite not only families to linger.
Starting from Engelberg Station, the starting point of the Aas Gorge adventure path, the route goes along Eugenisee towards the village exit. With the magnificent mountain panorama at your back, the gorge begins at the end of the lake by the old stone bridge. This is just one of many bridges that accompany you along the entire route. Repeatedly, you cross the Engelberger Aa using stone or steel bridges, walking alternately left and right along the brook. The path is mostly narrow but well maintained, making it perfect for walking with children. The roar of the water sounds like music to the ears and accompanies you along the entire hike. Thanks to the pleasantly cooling water of the Engelberger Aa and the shade-giving trees, the Aas Gorge is an unforgettable hiking experience even in hot temperatures.
About halfway, after an hour’s walk, you reach a nicely developed barbecue area right by the water. Equipped with tables, benches, covered spots, and a grill grate, everything is there to delight barbecue lovers. Thirst can be quenched at the drinking water fountain. Building "stone men", damming water, or playing hide and seek in the forest are just three of countless play options. A wonderful place to take a break. Well nourished and rested, you take the last stretch under your feet. Then continue over the next bridge and past the Obermatt reservoir. The end of the gorge is again marked by an old stone bridge. The rest of the route is flat until Grafenort Station. From there, the train returns to Engelberg or continues to Stans.
