From Engelberg train station, follow Dorfstrasse always toward the monastery. After the Tourist Information, Schwandstrasse turns left. From there, the path steadily rises. Passing Hotel Waldegg, stay on the road which, after the last houses, enters the forest. The road winds gently and steadily over a forest clearing and again in the forest up to the Schwand mountain restaurant. Here, a stop in the cozy restaurant is recommended. Not only does the sunny terrace invite you to take a break, but also the "Schwand specialties" like "fake Schwand snails" spark curiosity for more. Refreshed, follow the signpost to Spisboden. After a few bends, it flattens and the winter hiking trail leads towards the destination Ristis. The view toward Titlis and Engelberg is magnificent and makes you forget tired legs. After a well-deserved break on the sunny terrace of the Ristis mountain restaurant, take the gondola down to the valley. The free sports bus will take you back to the train station and the starting point of the winter hike.

    Author’s recommendation

Stop at the Schwand mountain restaurant. Let yourself be enchanted by the "Schwand specialties." Schwand also offers some exciting events. A look at their website before the route is recommended.
