From Engelberg railway station, follow the "Dorfstrasse" in the direction of the monastery. After the Tourist Information turn left into "Schwandstrasse". From there the path rises steadily. Pass the Hotel Waldegg and stay on the road which turns into the forest after the last houses. The road meanders gently over a clearing in the forest and back through the forest to the mountain restaurant Schwand. We recommend a stop here in the comfortably furnished restaurant. Not only the sunny terrace invites you to take a break, but also the "Schwander specialities" such as "false Schwander snails" make you want more. Freshly strengthened, you follow the signpost to Spisboden. After a few hairpin bends it becomes flatter and the winter hiking trail stops in the direction of the Ristis destination. The view in the direction of Titlis and Engelberg is magnificent and makes you forget your tired legs. After a well-deserved break on the sun terrace of the Ristis mountain restaurant, take the cable car down to the valley. The free sports bus takes you back to the station and the starting point of the winter hike.

    Author’s recommendation

Stop at the mountain restaurant Schwand. Let yourself be enchanted by the "Schwander specialities". The Schwand also has some exciting events in store for you. A look at its website before the tour is recommended.
