Theme hikes
Excitement, adventure and perhaps learning one or two things at the same time? This can be found on the theme trails around Engelberg. Go on a treasure hunt on Brunni or Trübsee or enjoy nature under your feet on the barefoot trail.
BUIRÄBÄHNLI SAFARI

Experience tradition. Discover heights. Enjoy nature. The Buiräbähnli Safari combines scenic mountain hikes with nostalgic small cable car rides – a multi-day route for those seeking the original and eager to explore new paths.
Day 1: From Engelberg into the valley of the Bähnli
The route starts at Engelberg station. Via Zingel and Lutersee, the path leads to Eggendössli. Here, the Buiräbähnli Rugisbalm takes you to Grafenort, where you hike along the Engelberger Aa to the next cable car, the Bielenbahn. After the ride to Alp Bielen, it continues over Schwand to Diegisbalm – those who want can make a detour to Oberalp. With the next cable car, you go downhill to Wolfenschiessen, where you spend the night in the lovingly designed Hotel Alpina Einhorn.
Day 2: From Wolfenschiessen to Bannalp
Refreshed by breakfast, you go through the village to the Brändlen-Bahn. After the ride, a short ascent follows to Schmiedsboden, before the next Buiräbähnli takes hikers down to Oberrickenbach. From there, it is a short walk to the valley station Fell, where two cable cars comfortably take you to Alp Sinsgäu. Once up there, continue on foot towards Bannalp and finally along the idyllic Walenpfad to Alp Oberfeld – the stage destination.
Day 3: Finale with panorama
The path continues along the Walenpfad to the SAC Brunnihütte. From here, it goes downhill to Ristis and then on to the Bordbahn, the last cable car of the tour. Alternatively, from the hut, take the chairlift (not included in the Bähnli pass). Back to Engelberg is either on foot or with the free summer bus.
