The Engelberg region, with more than 70 km of winter hiking trails, is a paradise for winter hikers. The well-prepared trails lead through snow-covered forests and landscapes. Enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps, the fresh mountain air and the sweet sound of snow crunching under your feet.

The free bus service takes you from Engelberg railway station to the Brunni valley station, where you can catch the Brunni cable car up to Ristis. This is where the Panorama Trail begins. The well-groomed winter hiking trail takes you on a gentle uphill gradient towards the Rigidalalp, with breath-taking views all the way. In good weather, the Hahnen is particularly photogenic. After half an hour’s walk, you should reach the pub and café Bergbeizli Rigidalalp. Once you’ve feasted your belly on tempting treats and your eyes on the views, you will have the energy to tackle the upward climb to the SAC Brunni mountain hut. After crossing the ski slope, your goal will be within eyeshot. The hut has a large terrace that is a great place for tired but happy hikers to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Your day of hiking thus comes to a fitting close with a good cup of coffee (with alcohol if you like) and a view of the Titlis.
Author’s recommendation
If you prefer to go downhill, take the chairlift from Ristis to the Brunnihütte and start the Panoramaweg there.
